Keeping Clear: Skin Care While Traveling

Hello loves!

Since I will be traveling a lot over the next couple weeks, I am very cautious with my skin and how I care for it. Being in airports and big cities can always make my complexion a little irritated, so I make sure to exfoliate every night and never go to bed with an inch of makeup on. I like to switch up my skincare regimen every couple months. This month I am using very little product and I have been wearing less makeup so that my pores stay clear. See below my travel skincare routine and how I stay glowing from city to city! XOXimage

Image Skincare: Total Resurfacing Masque ~ I cannot live without this all-in-one masque/exfoliator in my life! It has really kept my pores clean and gets rid of all impurities. I like to exfoliate with this every night to take my makeup off. Some mornings I will apply it as a masque and leave it on for 20min. It is a stronger scrub and tingled quite a bit on the skin.

Natura Bisse: Diamond White Matte Sunscreen ~ I have been pretty oily on this trip due to all the climate changes, so I have been skipping the moisturizer and going straight to my favourite sunscreen at the moment, Natura Bisse. This line was formed out of Barcelona, and I had the chance while I was there last week of meeting with one of the owners and had a tour of one of their amazing spa’s. I received some of their new products to try and will be doing s review soon. But this sunscreen is a must, it is not oily, adds wonderful moisture to the skin and smells divine! This is serious luxury when it comes to SPF!

Motives Perfecting Primer ~ to add a little bit more of a “matte” look to my skin after all the exfoliating and hydrating, I like to add a small amount of this lovely Motives primer. It fills in any lines/pores and leaves my skin fresh and ready for my makeup application!

Group-Peels

Do you ever wish your skin was more evenly toned, smaller pores or had 0 acne?! I think everyone does! That is why I love chemical peels! They can completely transform anyones skin in a matter of months! I have been using peels since I was 17 years old! I started out just doing fruit peels, such as Vitamin C, Papaya, and Passion Fruit peels! These are great for those that want to maintain fresh skin! I absolutely love them! So the next time you feel like your skin needs a pick-me-up, make an appointment for a peel!

Why I like Image peels: “A chemical peel product line featuring all natural ingredients, such as Aloe Vera, Papaya, Green Tea and Vitamin C, Image Skincare face peels effectively treat wrinkles, blemishes and uneven skin pigmentation. Our wide variety of chemical peels can take you from organic peeling to medical grade TCA peeling. No other chemical peel product line provides this many options.” -Image

Please note that these chemical peels are intended for use by skin care professionals.

The Facts…

How many times should I get a peel? I suggest doing peels once a month, to once every other month. You will see the most results with your skin if you do this. The only thing that you have to avoid after you get a peel is sunlight for a few days. Your skin becomes very sensitive to light after getting a peel, so plan to do your peels when you know you will be in for the weekend.

  • How do I know what type of peel to get?
  • Acne Skin- ask for a peel with Salicylic or Benzoyl Peroxide. These two chemicals eat away at acneic bacteria and will deeply cleanse any infections.
  • Pigmentation/Dark Spots/Uneven skin- ask for a peel with Kojic or Vitamin C acids. These lighten and brighten the skin. You will need at least 3-5 to see results.
  • Anti-Aging/Prevention/Pores- ask for a peel with Retinol, Glycolic, or Lactic acids. These are all anti-aging agents that will tighten your skin!

Will it burn? If you are afraid of peels because you think they will “burn”, it all depends on the percentage of peel that you get. Start out with a low percentage like 10-15% and then when you get the tolerance just go up from there! Be sure to go to a licensed professional so ensure that you will be well taken care of. You can get chemical peels from medical estheticians, dermatologists, and medical spas!

blogI am currently using the Wrinkle Lift I Peel from Image! This one is great for the wrinkle prevention and just keeping your skin clear 24/7. If you are interested in Peels in the CA or UT area, please email me to book an appointment!

Have a great Friday!

“Do you have a skin care line that is your favorite and is cost effective from the drugstore?”
Yes. My favorite drugstore brands for skincare are Cetaphil and Boots No. 7. These lines are very mild and super affordable. Cetaphil is great for all skin types. It is very gentle and I recommend it to my clients that suffer from Acne. When I get a breakout I use Cetaphil face cleanser to help balance my skin. Boots No. 7 is great for very dry skin, they also have other products for oily and acne skin too! Both products can be found at most all drugstores in the US or online.

“I have hyper pigmentation from my pregnancy, how do I lighten this?”
I would suggest using a skin lightener at first to see if that helps before you do any strong treatments. Find any product with Vitamin C and apply it topically every night. I would suggest any Vitamin C products from Image Skincare. If this does not work, I would highly suggest getting a series of Kojic chemical peels. Kojic helps to lighten the skin and goes deep down into the epidermis the lighten the deepest damage. If this does not work, I would suggest a series of IPL’s !

“I was wondering if you know of any good breakout creme or gel to lighten up acne scars?”
Yes. I have actually used Mederma in the past and it worked wonders. Keep in mind that the acne scar must be fairly new and fresh for it to lighten well with a scar gel. If you have old scars or pink spots from acne, I would definitely suggest trying a Glycolic or Kojic peel to help lift the pigmentation and fill in any scars with new skin.  If you want a nice at home remedy for lightening pink spots, try to apply lemon juice to the spot. This is a natural lightener.

“I would love to hear how many times a week you exfoliate with a manual scrub?”
Every night I wash my face with my gel foaming wash from Skin Ceuticals and then I use a pea size amount of my scrub to exfoliate any dead skin from that day. My skin has a high tolerance for exfoliation so I can do it every night. If you are a beginner, I would suggest doing a scrub every other day or two days a week, then bump it up from there if you want.

“I have blackheads. It’s soooo frustrating because I’m almost 29 and I feel like I shouldn’t anymore. How can I clean my pores out and keep them that way without stretching out and damaging my skin? I just want like one or two good solid decades in my life of no blackheads before the wrinkles come!”
Everyone always says this to me 🙂 In reality, everyone has blackheads, even I do! They drive me insane as well. Working with skin for years has made me realize that blackheads are inevitable and they will always come back no matter what. We have pores and we can empty them as many times a week but they will still fill up and we will have to empty them again. We can however minimize the size of our pores by doing the following: Monthly extractions, exfoliation, and tightening masks. I love Glam Glow‘s mask for tightening pores. I also love using a primer to deminish the look of pores when wearing makeup, my favorite is Clarins Perfecting Smooth. I suggest doing a facial monthly to help keep up on your skincare as well!

Thanks for stopping in! I hope a few of these questions helped you gals!
See you tomorrow!

In Home Spa: Moisture Facial

Have you ever had the best facial in your entire life and wish you could do it every month but cant because of the cost? Well now you can bring that relaxing facial to the heart of your home with just a few products. Keeping up on your skincare routine is super important, especially when it comes to cleaning out your pores. With these great products and a few tips you can have pure skin all year long!
Enjoy

  • First, start off by cleansing your face with the Fresh Soy Cleanser and some luke warm water. This is a wonderful cleanser for any skin type. Rich in amino acids, the soy proteins promote moisture retention, elasticity, and firmness. Rosewater balances and tones the skin. It is fragrance-free and soap-free, and infused with calming cucumber extract, yumm!
  • Next, turn on your portable Steamer. While it is heating, soak your towels in a bowl of warm/hot water. For some aroma therapy you can add a couple drops of lavender into the water. {If you do not have a steamer, boil  some water until it steams and place in a bowl, cover with a towel so steam stays in. When you are about to steam in your next step keep face 7 inches away from water and soak it in.}
  • When your steam is ready, apply your Suki Exfoliator evenly to the skin and lightly rub in circles into the skin for about a minute. Let the exfoliator soak into the pores underneath the steamer for 10 minutes. This will allow your pores to open up and get prepared for the extractions of any blackheads.  The Natural sugar crystals in this exfoliant will slough off dead skin to reduce fine lines and hyperpigmentation as they smooth skin’s surface. Rice flour extract stimulates circulation and chamomile extract calms inflammation and cools redness. Great for all skin types as well.
  • Remove the exfoliator with your luke warm towel. You are now ready to remove any blackheads on the nose and any whiteheads. With two pieces of gauze or tissues, lightly squeeze out any imperfections from the skin. This is the correct and healthiest way to remove impurities from the skin. Follow this demonstration video: How To Extract Pores
  • After all of your extractions, you can calm the skin with a mask or a facial oil massage. I like to use Josie Marans Argan oil. In light, circular motions massage the oil around the eyes, cheekbones, jaw and then full face. Don’t worry about this oil clogging your pores because it won’t, This 100% Pure Argan Oil is a legendary oil that’s rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, and grown organically in Morocco. With its multitasking benefits, Argan Oil can be used for many areas including hydrating and nourishing skin, as a daily moisturizer and a skin treatment for any facial.
  • Finish off your relaxing facial with an anti-aging serum. Ole Henricksens Collagen Serum is an oil-free serum that works like a food for the skin and it contains vitamins for the face. The powered vitamin C compounds help even out fine lines as well as wrinkles and put off further breakdown. This serum is loaded with antioxidants to battle with ecological attackers and wetness binding ingredients to keep the skin fed and sheltered.
  • There you have it, a purifying and hydrating at home facial! Best to do at night before bed!

Being an Aesthetician has taught me so much about skincare, especially the importance to take care of it as much as you can while you are younger. You don’t have to use the most expensive products but making sure to take off your makeup every night, using a toner, moisturizer and some type of anti-aging product will do wonders. I will soon be posting about my daily skin routines, so stay tuned!
In the mean time, what are your favorite skin care products?

Lots of love!
