Private Makeup Lesson: Maddie

Private lessons are one of my favorite services that I offer to clients. Being able to teach my tips and tricks in person to an individual and watch them instantly grow from it is so rewarding. This beautiful teen, Maddie,  has been competing in pageants for years. She came to me with not a lot of knowledge on how to apply makeup for when on stage and so that is exactly what I taught her. It was so fun to show her about all the many products to use to achieve a beautiful evening look that would make her eyes pop. While working over the years on pageant girls I have fallen in love with creating these looks and I am looking forward to seeing all of Maddie’s new skills put to action in the upcoming Miss Utah competition! Learn how to get this look below!

Perfect. Natural. Youthful
Before
For this look you can use any gold, pink and brown shadows!
1. Apply the inner pearly pink shadow from Buxom to the inner corners of the tear ducts.
This adds that hint of pink that will add a feminine touch to your look.
2. Today I will be showing you this eye look with the Charlotte Ronson palette which is on sale right now for $11 ! First apply the cream/tan shadow to the entire lid as a base for the other colors with a round shadow brush {see here}.
3. Apply the golden/bronze shadow to the entire lid over the cream colored shadow, apply with a wet brush for an even brighter gold effect. If you want a little shimmer to the gold, add the Buxom pink shadow over it.
4. Apply the dark brown in the corner of the lid and extend the shadow out of your natural eye shape in  an angled shape with a blending brush.The key with this part is to have no lines, you want it very blended smoothly. {see blending brush here}
5. Apply the Loreal smudge liner pencil to the top of the lid and extend it out with a winged end far out of the eye line. Make sure it is sharpened so you get the most straight line. Apply it to the bottom water line and all the way into inner tear duct, you basically want it to line the entire eye. We want to line the entire eye so that it will really pop her pale blue eyes with the black contrast.
6. Apply a little bit of the dark brown shadow lightly on the bottom lash line to blend the liner.
7. Apply your lashes and coat the top and bottom with mascara.
**TIP: To get that very sharp and clean corner to each end of the eyes use a flat brush/ lip brush and a bit of your concealer {in this case MAC NC20} and draw a sharp line from the outer edge of your lash and upwards following the pencil liner. blend in with your beauty blender and touch up with powder, this will get rid of any shadow that had fallen from application and give your a perfected eye.
This shimmering pearly highlight will give you the most luminous dew to the skin that will make you sparkle. It is beautiful when applied onto the cheekbones, center of the nose, and upper lip. We apply highlight to make features of the face stand out, this is the perfect color for all skin tones. To make this highlight pop even more, spray your brush and tap into product, then apply directly onto skin for a shining effect!

your truly amazing, naturally gorgeous and very very gifted!!! I have just one question, when you use the Sephora airbrush foundation, do you put the blush, bronzer and highlighter on before the foundation? I just don’t know how to blend them all together in order to achieve that dewy and seamless makeup that you do. from the pictures it looks like the highlight is under the foundation and comes through perfectly, if that makes any since at all lol.

  4. I wish I could get a private lesson from you! Let me know if you are ever in Seattle πŸ˜‰

Hi Jade, for the inner water line which product do you think lasts the best? Mine seems to wear off after a little while. Does the Loreal that you used here seem to last? Thanks for your help!

  10. wow you are gorgeous! thank you for your tips.

  11. She looked better before the makeup. Her beautiful smile and bright eyes are what make her beautiful.

  12. Yes, I agree – she looks prettier before the makeup. It’s so heavy. And I think you forgot to mention that you used false eyelashes on her. There is no way those are real.

  13. what camera do you use to take your pictures?? Great FOTD btw πŸ™‚

  14. Uh, I much prefer the first look, she looks more pretty than with the makeup on.
And I have nothing against makeup in general, I own the products, I do it, I pin it.

  15. To those who would read, this make up lesson was taught to achieve an evening look for pageants so of course it will be a little heavier than some would prefer. And even if not written, you can clearly see false lashes on #6 in the picture. Regardless, there are those who do this as an everyday look and it is still beautiful no matter the setting.

  16. How much do you charge for a private lesson? I would love to learn some makeups tricks and techniques.

  17. I LOVE THIS!! but you still look good without makeup…

  18. WOW!! This is so beautiful. She looks pretty without makeup too. I mean i dont know much about makeup but this is so pretty. I live in austin, but would love to get a lesson from you.:)

  19. Let me know if youre ever in Cleveland OH
